A 2009 slideshow I created with reporter Chris Landers. Chris interviewed Bruce; I took photographs, edited the conversation, and created this narrated slideshow.
Currently overseeing the boat-building workshops at the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park in Fells Point, Bruce MacKenzie is the senior shipwright for the U.S.S. Constellation and is building two new quarter boats for it (these are 26-footers hung from either side of the stern). As part of a 40-week "Fresh Start" program for at-risk youth, he also teaches Living Classrooms kids whatever he can about woodworking, boat building, and the good life to be led when the hands work in concert with the mind. For those wanting a taste of the shop, boat-building classes are available, led by Marc Pettingill, boat builder and author of a "how-to" manual titled Building Sweet Dream.
